Temporal Harmonies Inc.
Formed by world-leading graduates from the Royal Academy of Music, innovative flute/cello/piano trio Temporal Harmonies Inc. strives for innovation through collaboration and exploring the boundaries between genres, specialising in existing repertoire, new commissions, and arrangements informed by their passion for both historical performance and cutting-edge contemporary music. Through close collaboration and experimentation on both modern and period instruments, the musicians of THI are dedicated to exploring their instruments’ place in contemporary performance, and expanding the repertoire for this unique combination of instruments. Inspired by collaboration between various art forms, THI strives to incorporate multi-disciplinary collaboration into their performances, embracing where the arts intersect and diverge.
Hailing from diverse backgrounds in the USA, Poland, and China, Temporal Harmonies Inc.’s core musicians have been awarded BBC Rising Star (Xiaowen Shang) and the New Elizabethan Award (Mikolaj Piszczorowicz). Each artist enjoys a musical range from historical performance to contemporary works and has had the privilege to study under the acclaimed historical performance department at the Academy. Notable collaborations include the premiere of Ashkan Layegh’s Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano and Zygmund de Somogyi’s Flute Trio, No. 1 at the Wigmore Hall (Royal Philharmonic Society commission).
Within the first year of forming, Temporal Harmonies Inc. was awarded the Jacob Barnes Prize, with their debut performance at the Royal Academy of Music’s Students Create festival. With multiple concerts in various notable venues around London, THI’s Wigmore Hall debut involved the opening concert of the For Crying Out Loud 2024 concert series, and the ensemble have been featured in lunchtime concerts at the Royal Academy of Music, chamber music series at St. Mary Le Strand, and the Royal Academy of Music’s Piano Festival. These versatile musicians finished their summer season with a historical concert in the Royal Academy’s Piano Gallery, performing on instruments from the Baroque period to the early 20th century. This charismatic group recently performed a feature concert at Wigmore Hall, partially supported by the Royal Philharmonic Society.
