Jónas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson

Jónas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson is a classical accordionist based in Copenhagen. He holds a Masters Degree as well as a Postgraduate Degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Music where he studied under the tutelage of Geir Draugsvoll and Andreas Borregaard. Jónas has premiered pieces by numerous composers from Iceland, Denmark and further afield. He released the album FIKTA with Icelandic contemporary music for the classical accordion in 2022 with Dacapo Records and sound engineer Ragnheiður Jónsdóttir. The album includes a concerto by Finnur Karlsson as well as world premiere recordings of works by Atli Heimir Sveinsson and Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson. FIKTA was chosen album of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards 2023 in the classical/contemporary category, and Jónas himself was the performer of the year in the same category. He was the first Icelander to perform an accordion concerto with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in 2016, a role which he reprised in 2024 at the Dark Music Days Festival, where he performed two concertos by Þuríður Jónsdóttir and Finnur Karlsson. He has also performed as soloist with Elja Ensemble and BIT20 in Norway. His upcoming projects include two new concertos by Veronique Vaka and Bára Gísladóttir to be premiered alongside Athelas Sinfonietta in Copenhagen and Århus Sinfonietta.
Jónas is a founding member of three forward-thinking music group dedicated to performing new music: EKKI MINNA, alongside the cellist Andrew Power; the accordion trio ítríó, alongside Jón Þorsteinn Reynisson and Helga Kristbjörg Guðmundsdóttir, and KIMI ensemble, alongside Katerina Anagnostidou and Þórgunnur Anna Örnólfsdóttir.
