The Icelandic conductor and cellist Hjörtur Páll Eggertsson was five years old when he started playing the cello. He would later study at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Morten Zeuthen and Toke Møldrup. He has experience both as a chamber musician and orchestral musician, having played in various festivals in Europe and regularly with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Phil and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra as well as having performed as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He was a student of the Malko Academy for Young Conductors from 2020-2022 and has participated in masterclasses with Herbert Blomstedt, Nicolás Pasquet, Eva Ollikainen and Fabio Luisi and conducted concerts with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Athelas Sinfonietta and Elja Ensemble. In 2023, he began his conducting studies with Ed Spanjaard at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and is currently a part of the Danish talent program for conductors, Dirigentløftet.
