Ester Aasland
clarinetistEster Aasland is a clarinetist and composer from Stavanger in Norway. In 2021 she started her studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music with a bachelor in classical performing clarinet as well as a degree in music pedagogics. This last year she worked at Music Crossroads Academy in Malawi, Africa through the Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation. Her work in Malawi has specialised in projects for children, including a children’s concert based on the Malawian folktale about “Kalulu the Hare”. Another children’s concert, called “The Three Little Piglets” has been performed in several occasions earlier such as Oslo Chamber Music Festival in 2024 and it has been touring as a part of Oslo Municipality´s Culture Programme for Kindergartens. Ester has received several prices and scholarships for her playing and composing, such as “The Dream Scholarship” from the Norwegian School of Music and Performing Arts Council in 2024, the “Culture Scholarship” from her home municipality Time in 2022 and the Norwegian Aareskjold Scholarship in 2021. She also won 1st prize and the “Inspirational prize” in the Norwegian Youth Competition in 2021.
Ester first joined Stundarómur in 2023, when they performed their concert «Gimbillinn Mælti» at the Seigla Festival in Reykjavik.
