Sólveig Vaka Eyþórsdóttir

Violinist

Sólveig Vaka Eyþórsdóttir was born in Reykjavík in 1994 and started her violin studies at the age of eight. Her main teachers in Iceland were Ari Þór Vilhjálmsson at the Reykjavík Music School and Guðný Guðmundsdóttir at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Music in Leipzig in 2021, where she studied under the supervision of Erich Höbarth, but is currently pursuing a master's degree at the same school with Tobias Feldmann.

Sólveig Vaka has played with various musical groups in Iceland, including CAPUT and Brák Baroque Ensemble, and she is one of the founding members of Elja ensemble. In Germany, she has played with the Philharmonie Leipzig and the Leipziger Bach Vereinigung, among others, and this year she is working at the Neuköllner Oper in Berlin. Sólveig Vaka has performed as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra, and last year she received a grant from the Rotary Foundation of Iceland.

As a performer of chamber music, Sólveig Vaka has performed both in Iceland and in Germany, most recently under the banner of the music festival Con Spirito in Leipzig with the pianist Sung-Ah Park and in the Classical Sundays in Harpa with her newly formed piano quartet. She has also been a member of Ólafur Arnalds string quartet since 2015, both in recordings and in concerts around the world.
