Kristinn Sigmundsson

Kristinn Sigmundsson was born in Reykjavik in 1951.

He has been active as a singer for over 40 years, first in Iceland, but since 1989 he has mainly worked internationally as a free-lance opera-and concert singer. He has sung leading roles with most major opera companies: New York (MET), San Francisco opera, Los Angeles opera, Houston Grand opera, the operas in Paris, Vienna, Munich, London. Tokyo and Beijing, to name a few. He has also performed in concert with The Icelandic Symphony orchestra, the Conzertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, The Budapest Festival Orchestra, The Orchestra of the eighteenth century, Les musiciens du Louvre, Orchestra of the Bavarian radio, Münchener Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and others. Kristinn has a big repertory of art songs by Schubert, Schumann, Mahler and Wolf and others, as well as Icelandic songs. He has recorded both Schumann’s op. 35 and op 39 with pianist Jónas Ingimundarson. Among his other recordings are two recordings of Schubert’s Winterreise with Jónas Ingimundarson and Víkingur H. Ólafsson.
