Soprano
The half-Icelandic, half-Swedish soprano Vera Matsdóttir completed a Master’s degree in Classical Voice at Royal Conservatoire The Hague in 2024 under the guidance of Frans Fiselier, after earning a Bachelor’s degree from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2020 under the guidance of Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir, Kristinn Sigmundsson, Ólöf Kolbrún Harðardóttir, and Þóra Einarsdóttir. Vera has received numerous recognitions, including a grant from the Halldór Hansen Scholarship Fund and a scholarship from Iceland's National Bank. In 2026, she was awarded third prize in the open category of Vox Domini singing competition, and in 2024 she received a special prize for the best performance of a work by the competition’s featured composer, Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir.
Among her recent engagements are appearances in the opera Sæmundur Fróði by Þórunn Guðmundsdóttir, in the role of Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro at Reykjavík City Theater, in Hliðarspor by Þórunn Guðmundsdóttir, and Brím by Friðrik Margrétar-Guðmundsson and Adolf Ingi Smárason. Vera also performed the title role in the new Icelandic opera SKJÓTA by Sigrún Gyða Sveinsdóttir. In addition, she regularly presents solo recitals in various concert series performing both opera and art song repertoire and has appeared as a soloist in major concert works, including Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini, Oratorio de Noël by Saint-Saëns, and Stabat Mater by Pergolesi.
