Hjörtur Páll Eggertsson

The Icelandic conductor and cellist Hjörtur Páll Eggertsson was five years old when he started playing the cello. He would later study at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Morten Zeuthen and Toke Møldrup. He has experience both as a chamber musician and orchestral musician, having played in various festivals in Europe and regularly with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Phil and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra as well as having performed as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He was a student of the Malko Academy for Young Conductors from 2020-2022 and has participated in masterclasses with Herbert Blomstedt, Johannes Schlaefli, Nicolás Pasquet, Eva Ollikainen and Fabio Luisi, working with various orchestras, including the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. 

From 2023-2025, he studied in the conducting class of Ed Spanjaard at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Since August 2025 he has been a student of Giordano Bellincampi in the Advanced Postgraduate Programme for conducting at the Royal Danish Academy of Music as well as being a participant of the Danish talent program for conductors, Dirigentløftet and a participant of Nordisk Dirigentforum in 2024-2025.

In 2024 he had his conducting debut with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and has since then worked regularly with the orchestra. He has also had frequent engagements as an assistant, most recently assisting Eva Ollikainen and the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms.
