Þórgunnur Anna Örnólfsdóttir

Þórgunnur Anna Örnólfsdóttir is an Icelandic vocalist and performer based between Copenhagen and Reykjavík. She is classically trained and performs in a wide range of early to contemporary music, but has found her niche in performing new music. She enjoys working closely with composers and has premiered well over twenty pieces which comprise both operas, solo pieces, as well as chamber music composed for her trio KIMI ensemble. 

Þórgunnur has performed as a soloist with e.g. The Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, Århus Sinfonietta (DK), Ensemble Storstrøm (DK), BIT20 Ensemble (NO) and Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra (IS), and at festivals & such as Bang on a Can (US), Tête à Tête opera festival (UK), Nordic Song Festival (SE), NJORD biennale (DK), et al.. She has performed in several experimental opera production, e.g. with the groups Neugeboren Opera and Venteværelset, as well as inter-disciplinary performances, such as The Altersea Opera at the Venice Biennale 2024, and Livia’s Room at Cornerteateret in Bergen, Norway in 2022. She has interpreted operatic roles such as Dido and Ariodante, in addition to being an eager performer of chamber music.

She was nominated as “Singer of the year“ at Gríman, the Icelandic acting awards, for her role in the new Icelandic opera Brím; in 2021 she won the competition ¨Young soloists¨ (Ungir einleikarar) held by the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and that same year her trio, KIMI ensemble, got nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards for the best musical event of the year. Þórgunnur has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from The Royal Danish Academy of Music where she studied with Marianne Rørholm, Hanna Hjort and Helene Gjerris. In addition she has a Bachelor’s degree in Icelandic and Anthropology from The University of Iceland.
